4 Signs You Could Be In The Wrong Job

Have you ever felt that you were in the wrong job? Wondering if this is all there is? Is it a rough patch in the career train or is it time for a change?

If you just can't shake that feeling and you are reaching for the vino every night just to get over the trauma of being in the office, here are 4 signs that will help you figure out for sure if you should start looking for a new role.

1. You get major Sunday night blues

Everyone would love a longer weekend! But you shouldn’t be dreading going to work. There should be excitement, knowing that you can go and make an impact in what you do. It’s a brand new week with fresh challenges.

But if you have that deep feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach, and you are constantly wondering what crap is going to come your way,  the chances are that it is more than just the Sunday night blues.

Sunday evening should have you brimming with ideas on how you're going to take on this new week and all the challenges it's going to throw your way.

If everything is aligned, you should be excited to go to work…..and excited to go home. Not dragging your butt to the office and then delaying going home because of the stress of actually leaving work.

2. You can't relate to the company's values

Every company has a set of values and some communicate them more than others. You will also have your own set of values. What’s important to you. How do you do business. How you conduct yourself in the office – your personal brand.

There should be a correlation between your values and that of your employers. Why is this important? Imagine you are someone who takes pride in your work and your employer is actually just a bit half-assed, they just want output. That will frustrate you day after day and we don’t want that.

Company values are should resonate with you. Even if you don't agree with all of them, you should at least respect them and be motivated enough to help the company achieve them.

Or you could start your own company and create a business that is 100% you…. (just a thought!)

3. You don't really connect with your colleagues

Working in a team with people you actually like to spend time with makes a huge difference to our motivation and delivery! Not everyone goes to work to make friends but if you can’t find the motivation to engage with any of your colleagues in any way, you should take a look at why.

Remember, these are people who you're supposedly sharing a common goal with. Working towards the company goal. If you can’t even bring yourself to say good morning to them, or vice versa,  how can you work together effectively?

Spending a day with people you don’t like is draining.

4. You don't feel yourself when you're at work

This one is super important. You should never feel pressure to be someone you are not at work. Do not think that you have to change to fit in, be it in how you operate, how you talk, how you look. It is not healthy to pretend to be someone we are not for 8+ hours per day. Imagine what that would be doing to your self-esteem.

How to get round this? Find a new place to work. When you go to interviews, be yourself. Unless you are sat there breaking wind at every opportunity or doing some breakdancing on the table, just be you!

Remember, you don’t have to stick at one job just because you are scared of looking like a job-hopper. Most Millennials only stay with an employer for around 24 months before moving on to get more experience. And if someone is judging you for wanting to work in a company that values you and that you value back, take a look at them and ask why they would be willing to work like that.

When everything is in alignment, and this IS possible, it’s as if the heavens opened and champagne is raining down!
